Yoga Equipment

Yoga equipment is designed to assist you in performing your yoga moves without the assistance of a prop or chair.  While most poses and movements to not require specific equipment there are some that do.  Even with the poses that do not require equipment it can be helpful in maintaining balance and posture in your movements.  Most equipment can be used for multiple techniques.

Some popular types of yoga equipment are:

Blocks provide you with the support and height you may need to perform many movements and posses.  They assist you in performing these moves safely and with perfect alignment.  They can be placed under your hips, hands, feet to provide stable grounding.  You can also place them between your arms and legs for maximum muscle building.  Blocks can be made of wood or foam.

Elastic Straps are designed to promote flexibility and stability in your movements.  A strap is designed to wrap around multiple parts of your body to help you achieve poses that you could not achieve before.  They can be placed around legs, arms, hands and feet so that you can bend towards them with more flexibility.  A strap also helps to maintain balance in poses and movements because it can be placed to hold your limbs in place.

Sandbags can be used for many purposes with most yoga poses and movements.  They can substitute the place of blocks by being placed under your body to provide stability.  Because they are made of sand they will form to your body and add to your comfort.  They can also be used as weights and be held or placed on parts of your body in poses that promote muscle growth.

There are many more types of yoga equipment that can be found online or at your yoga supply store.  You can place all your equipment in a yoga mat carrying bag so you can use it at all your yoga classes or at home.  Yoga carrying bags allow you to easily carry your bags and equipment so you have easy access to them wherever you need them.
